There are certain times when you’re trying to hit that deadline and there’s no time to find an image on Unsplash, or when your clients don’t have one at their disposal because they’re still planning to do a custom photoshoot.

Well, don’t worry, there are plenty of placeholder images that could help you with that. Besides, would it be fun using cat pics as placeholders?

Anyway, here’s an extra-nice list of placeholder images that you can try out for yourself. Be sure to ready your bookmarks, because they’re incredibly time-savers and you don’t want them to be lost in the sea of browser history.

Fake Images Please?

https://fakeimg.pl/

https://fakeimg.pl/

*Fakeimg.pl* is an open-sourced, little tool for generating placeholder images with an URL. Simply add in the ideal dimensions you want after the URL. You can also change the text, font, and color however you like.

Lorem Picsum

https://picsum.photos/

*Lorem Picsum* (a clever portmanteau of lorem ipsum and picture) is a tool for generating placeholders sourced from Unsplash$^1$. Put in the link with dimensions will simply return a random image.

If you want static images, there’s a list of images complete with the author’s name and ID number. You can also generate a blurred version of that image, a grayscale one, or maybe even both. They even have an API if you want to list some images.

LoremFlickr

https://loremflickr.com/

https://loremflickr.com/

*LoremFlickr* is similar to Lorem Picsum. The difference LoremFlickr supplies more images than Lorem Picsum because it uses images from Flickr.

Flickr has lots of images that you can download, with different kinds of Creative Commons licenses. Because of this, a watermark is generated with the author’s name and the type of license the image uses.

You can read the simple documentation on the website. And if you’re generous enough, you can donate to the author via PayPal.
